The Last of Us is a third-person action-adventure game featuring a mix of exploration, stealth and combat. Naughty Dog Engine is a proprietary in-house engine developed by Naughty Dog and used across multiple console generations since 2007. First deployed on PlayStation 3 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, it evolved through successive versions to support PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles such as The Last of Us Part II and The Last of Us Part I. The engine features advanced animation systems, dynamic lighting, and tailored optimizations for Sony hardware. It is not publicly available and is exclusively used by Naughty Dog.
Twenty years after the outbreak of a parasitic fungus which takes over the neural functions of humans, Joel, a Texan with a tragic familial past, finds himself responsible with smuggling a fourteen-year-old girl named Ellie to a militia group called the Fireflies, while avoiding strict and deadly authorities, infected fungal hosts and other violent survivors.
